“Young Explorer” Program to Hone Skills of School Students

The second edition of the “Young Explorer” program that targets school students and organized by Sultan Qaboos University in association with the Ministry of Education commenced at the University on Sunday, 23 June 2019 under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Ali bin Saud Al Bimani, the Vice Chancellor of SQU. As many as 127 students from grade 9 and above representing various schools in the Sultanate are participating in the "Young Explorer" program that seeks to hone skills of students in mathematics, IT and English language by combining learning with entertainment. The program that aims at developing soft skills of students along with academic abilities, will last until 25 July 2019.

On the first day, H.E. Dr. Ali Bin Saud Al Bimani greeted the participants, telling about how students who participated in the program in the previous years benefited from this unique program organized by SQU for school students. He explained to the students about the difference between learning in schools and learning in universities, mentioning how to take advantage of the university life in future.

Rashid Hamad Al Kiyumi, Vice Chancellors’ Advisor for Planning and Development Affairs, and head of the program said that the goal of the program is to hone the skills of the participating students and develop their personality to make them better citizens who can meet the challenges of the globalized world. Around 110 students had participated in the first edition of the "Young Explorer program" and they had achieved great progress as 36% of them passed the Foundation Program of the universities with good scores.
