12 May, 2019 |

Sultan Qaboos University’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering held its “Demo Day 2019” which highlighted students final year projects (FYPs) to the industry experts. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Mohammed Al Badi, Head of the Department. These senior projects or FYPs are very important because students learn to work in teams to solve a reasonable size of design, simulation, experimental, implementation problems. They give the students the chance to apply and practice the knowledge they have acquired during their studies at the department. Therefore, a special care and attention is given to the projects. Students are required to work hard from the start in order to get maximum benefit from the project and to achieve good performance. The evaluation and grade assessment of Senior Projects is done based on Quality and Quantity of work done, Report and Oral Presentations, the Supervisor assessment of the students’ performance during the project. Students are also required to make a Poster of their Project. The Posters are evaluated by the jury members as well as by the invited engineers from industry.

Dr. Amir Abdulghani, Chair of Community Service and Publicity Committee of the department said that this exciting event is held annually by the ECE Department where students get a chance to demonstrate their design capabilities through presenting working prototypes of their projects. “This year there were over 40 projects by 118 students from Communications and Signal Processing (CSP), Computer Systems and Networks (CSN), Electronic Instrumentation and Control (EIC) and Power Systems and Energy (PSE) on display. Evaluators from the industry were very impressed with the high quality and level of stimulating projects put on display by the ECE students”.
