Renewable Energy (RE) systems are gaining big momentum and there is a significant scope for developing solar energy resources throughout the Sultanate. Sultan Qaboos University, with its long experience in renewable energy research, is considered as a hub for Omani RE expertise. The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of College of Engineering at Sultan Qaboos University organized a symposium on Technology of Renewable Energy Systems on 20 March 2019. The objectives of the events were to present and discuss new renewable energy technologies; share experience from local and international practices; and present opportunities to enhance cooperation between the industrial sector and College of Engineering. The event presented and discussed strategic and development plans of the industrial sector in different areas of Renewable Energy sector. Participants from PDO, BP, EJAAD, OPWP, Al Buraimi Solar Energy system, Al Wathbh Tech. Cont. & Eng. LLC and other industry players were present at this symposium. Prof. Hadj Bourdoucen (Dean, College of Engineering) and Dr. Rashid Al Abri (Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, SQU) gave the symposium’s opening remarks.
