Prof. Sabah Bags Qatar Green Research Award

Sabah Ahmed Abdul-Wahab Al-Suleiman, a Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the College of Engineering, Sultan Qaboos University, has bagged Qatar Sustainability Awards 2018 in the category of Green Research. She got this award for her research project titled “the use of waste generated from oil drilling operation as alternative raw material in cement industry: manufacturing of sustainable cement”. This research is currently funded by The Research Council of the Sultanate of Oman (TRC).  Prof. Sabah is working in this research in cooperation with Oman Cement Company in order to use the waste associated with the drilling of oil wells in the industrial activities related to the cement industry.

The Qatar Sustainability Awards aims to recognize the efforts, commitment, and contributions of individuals, institutions, and organizations in furthering sustainable development and environmental protection in Qatar and beyond. The awards are open to government, corporate entities, and non-profit organizations, with a diverse range of categories. The main categories include green buildings, green hospitality, green service providers, building products and technologies, green research, and sustainability initiatives.

Sabah Al-Suleiman, after completing PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Bath, UK, joined Sultan Qaboos University as a visiting Consultant in the Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering of the College of Engineering in 1999. She became Assistant Professor in the same department in 2000 and became associate professor in 2005. Since May 2010, Sabah has been serving as Professor in the department. Her research interests include environmental engineering, air and water pollution including modelling, neural network and statistical analysis, water desalination and renewable energy.
