Majors Fair 2018: Spotlight on 60 Academic Majors

The Majors’ Fair 2018 organized by the Centre for Career Guidance at Sultan Qaboos University was opened on 1 October 2018 at the Grand Hall of the University’s Cultural Centre, under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Sarmi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education. The Fair will last for three days.

Maryam bint Salem Al Masroori, Director of Centre for Career Guidance, said that the fair aims to increase newly admitted students’ awareness about the available majors, and related skills and prospective jobs, and to help them plan a successful career path that begins by choosing the right major.

Majors Fair includes stations representing 60 academic majors offered by all the nine colleges at the university. In addition, it helps new students in choosing the right academic majors, or changing their majors as well as who are looking to transfer from one college to another. It also provides the opportunity for the students to obtain information about job market and career paths associated with specialization through the business sector.

All the university's nine colleges is participating in the exhibition, in addition to the Deanship of Admission and Registration, which provides students with the necessary information on the conditions of transfer between the colleges of the university. Further, Government agencies such as the Ministry of Manpower, the Ministry of Civil Service and the Public Authority for Manpower Register are also participating in the event.

The Center for Career guidance provides many services for the university students, for effective career planning, acquiring the required skills for the labor market, searching and applying for various jobs. Moreover, the Centre provide CV and job correspondence review for students, and prepare them for job interviews.
