Information Systems Students ‘Capture’ the Cybersecurity Flag
The Department of Information Systems at the College of Economics and Political Science organized the "Capture the Flag (CTF)” competition in Cybersecurity in its second edition, sponsored by Oman Broadband Company and in the presence of the CEO of the company Eng. Saeed bin Abdullah Al-Manthari.
The competition is a continuation of the practice of involving the university students in various applied competitions, which contribute to improving the skills of students and preparing them to work in order to join the labor market. The competition was limited to the students of the Information Systems Department at the College of Economics & Political Science, of which 10 students qualified the final round to be held in June 4, 2018.
The first place was won by student Hassan bin Sadiq Al-Lawati. The second place was won by Al-Harith bin Saeed Al-Hamdani. Both winners will participate in the Cyber Security Camp at the University of Houston at Clear Lake in the United States.
It should be noted that the competition in its first edition targeted university students from different universities and colleges in the Sultanate. The competition is one of the most important international competitions held in various countries around the world. It is sponsored by several specialized conferences in information security and cybersecurity. These competitions are aimed at enabling competitors to benefit from knowledge in their theoretical framework in order to apply them to various scenarios that differ in concept and content. This helps the rider or the student to acquire practical knowledge and technical skills that qualify him to gain proficiency in the labor market immediately after graduation.
